ABOUT THE PROJECT
The main purpose this project, performed by Small Partnership "Pelėdiškių ąžuolas" ("Pelediskes Oak") - to preserve Jewish heritage in Akmene region, preserving burials, transfering data of burials into virtual space, continuous education of Akmenė region residents about Lithuanian Jewish culture, heritage, traditions, history and destinies, thus inspiring multicultural relationship of Lithuanian and Jewish population and communities, diminishing s prejudices about both nationatilies and their interrelationship during the course of history.
This project is a continuous effort, that started by "Šimaitė Invites to Talk" ("Šimaitė kviečia kalbėtis") in 2019, and continued in 2020 as "Sholom, Akmene!"

CONINUOUS ACTIVITIES
CONFERENCES
Conferences of Jewish heritage and traditions are traditionally held in Akmenė. They are dedicated to Jewish (Litvak) everyday life, traditions, gastronomic heritage. Local and national lecturers are invited to these conferences. Educations on Jewish traditions and gastronomy are also part of these conferences. MORE...

EDUCATIONAL CREATIVITY CAMP
Educational camp for students from different Jewish and Lithuanian schools, traditionally organized in Balsiai Summer Camp, during which students with the help of professional art teachers are preparing educational music performances in yidish and lithuanian languages. This work during camp is very intense, as there are just 10 days for joint rehearsals and staging. Results are really astonishing. MORE...

Musical performance, prepared in camp are performed for audience not only in Akmene, but also other places on demand. Two performances were prepared up today - "The Sounds of Shtetl" in 2019 and "Shabbat Evening" in 2020. These performances are very important as they do not just reflect traditions, but performers experience close relationship with Jewish traditional music and increase their knowledge on Jewish culture. ACTIVITIES IN OLD JEWISH CEMETERIES
They are also visiting Jewish cemeteries in Akmene, Tryskiai Vegeriai, Viekšniai, Mažeikiai, will take pictures of existing tombstones, decipher inscriptions and enter all collected data into dedicated webpage and also into billiongraves.com.

MEMORIAL CEREMONY FOR HOLOCAUST VICTIMS IN AKMENE REGION
„Memory March“ – On August 4th, 1941 members of local Jewish communities in Akmenė and Vegeriai were marched to Mažeikiai and killed there on August 9th, 1941. We opplan to organize reading of killed jews in Akmenė central square, followed by bicycle ride of young people to Mažeikiai, place of killing, repeating name reading there, and puting memory stones with the names of killed jews there. Older people will be able to go from Akmenė to Mažeikiai by bus in order to participate in both parts of the event. Number of participants – 100 cyclists, 200 spectators."1941-08-04 Akmenės ir Vegerių žydai buvo išvaryti į Mažeikius, kur 1941-08-09 visi buvo sušaudyti. Jų atminimui Akmenės miesto aikštėje skaitomi nužudytųjų Akmenės krašto žydų vardai, o po šios ceremonijos vykstama į žydų sušaudymo vietą Mažeikiuose. Čia vėl skaitomi vardai, giedama giesmė nužudytųjų atminimui ir kiekvienam sušaudytam Akmenės krašto žydui padedama po atminties akmenėlį su jo vardu ir pavarde.
