ŠIMAITĖ INVITES TO TALK (2019)

The first day of the Akmenė city festival "All roads lead to Akmenė" has passed. It started with the conference "Šimaitė invites to talk". The initiators of this project are Diana and Marijus Lopaičiai, the project is implemented by the Public Library of the Akmenė district municipality together with the Akmenė City Public Library. Presentations were presented at the Akmenė regional museum: Marijus Lopaitis - "Jewish communities in Akmenė region", Arūnas Ostrauskis - "Organization and perpetuation of the search sites of the Vegeriai synagogue", Aleksandras Vitkus showed the film "Holocaust. The fading past", Rita Ringienė - "Ona Šimaitė: The history of the righteous people of the world", Zita Sinkevičienė - presented the literary heritage of Litvaks and Ona Šimaitė's letters, Eugenijus Bunka - the exhibition of his father Jakov Bunka's works and the photo exhibition "Kaddish for wooden synagogues", which were presented to the project by Jakov Bunka Charity and Support Foundation.
The participants of the conference took part in the symbolic ceremony of naming the Akmenė Library after Ona Šimaitė. Ona Šimaitė's relative Rytė Šimaitė with her children also participated in the event. It was a beautiful coincidence that her daughter Smiltė had already visited Akmenė before and performed with the Vilnius choir "Ugnelė" in the Akmenė regional museum.
