ABOUT THE PROJECT
The main purpose this project, performed by Small Partnership "Pelėdiškių ąžuolas" ("Pelediskes Oak") - to preserve Jewish heritage in Akmene region, preserving burials, transfering data of burials into virtual space, continuous education of Akmenė region residents about Lithuanian Jewish culture, heritage, traditions, history and destinies, thus inspiring multicultural relationship of Lithuanian and Jewish population and communities, diminishing s prejudices about both nationatilies and their interrelationship during the course of history.
Project is partially funded by Good Will Foundation and Lithuanian Culture Council. It is also supported by Akmene region municipality.

CONTINUOUS ACTIVITIES
CONFERENCES, DISCUSSIONS
Conferences related to local history, related to heritage, are organized within the framework of the project - a great opportunity to learn more about the heritage of Akmenė region, famous people, Jewish past, traditions. YOUTH CAMPS
During the youth creative camps, creative and talented schoolchildren representing the Lithuanian and Jewish nations are invited to one place for several days. In the camps, the final stage of the preparation of the educational concert is carried out - by working intensively and with the help of experienced music educators, the children prepare a concert related to the Jewish cultural heritage, which is then performed for a wider audience.

We chose this form of education because it seemed to us to be more understandable and accessible to a wider part of society. Each performance is dedicated to a certain theme, this theme is revealed by the pieces performed. The participants of the concert - children - learn more about Jewish culture and traditions while rehearsing the pieces, and the information presented in the concert is easily and simply accepted by the audience. ACTIVITIES IN OLD JEWISH CEMETERIES
They are also visiting Jewish cemeteries in Akmene, Tryskiai Vegeriai, Viekšniai, Mažeikiai, will take pictures of existing tombstones, decipher inscriptions and enter all collected data into dedicated webpage and also into billiongraves.com.

COMMEMORATION OF HOLOCAUST VICTIMS IN AKMENE REGION
On 08/04/1941, the Jews of Akmenė and Vegeriai and surrounding villages were expelled to Mažeikiai, where they were all shot on 08/09/1941. In their memory, the names of the murdered Jews of Akmenė region are read in the Akmenė town square, and after this ceremony, we go to the place where the Jews were shot in Mazeikiai. Here the names are read again, a hymn is sung in memory of the murdered and a memorial stones with name and surname is placed for every murdered Jew of the Akmenė region. More...
